I have no idea why, it\u2019s not like I use the word sexy a whole lot &#8211; but I think it\u2019s just a great reminder of what being REAL\u00a0is all about.<\/p>\n<p>When we first get started in business, it\u2019s easy to watch what others are doing to be successful and try to emulate or copy that in our own brands.<\/p>\n<p>You know what we all (eventually) come to find out? \u00a0It doesn\u2019t work that way.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There\u2019s a difference between inspiration and emulation. \u00a0It doesn\u2019t work to be something we\u2019re not. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As I think about the most \u2018successful\u2019 (based on varying definitions of success) boutiques across the internet, you know what they have in common?<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re all boutiques.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s it. \u00a0Not one is a carbon copy of another, they each have their own twist, flavor and style. They each are comfortable in their own skin and share their unique brand with confidence.<\/p>\n<p>So, you\u2019re getting my message here right? \u00a0The key to success? \u00a0<strong>Being Authentic.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My faith tells me that we were all made to be unique and special, my business brain tells me people just want to know YOU and feel a connection with the brands they shop.<\/p>\n<div class=\"blog-image c_m\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/theboutiquehub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/10924729_354234894779770_1772696175136687659_n_500_500_84_s.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<p><strong>So what does it mean to be authentic?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here are a few tips to help you find and love your own skin in business.<\/p>\n<h3>1. \u00a0You can be both humble and confident.<\/h3>\n<p>Sometimes we shy away from sharing our true selves across social media, in the disguise of being humble. I\u2019ve found myself in this trap not wanting to share too much, use video or post too much on my personal profile. It&#8217;s a work in progress.<\/p>\n<p>But you know what? \u00a0I realized it has nothing to do with being humble, I have a message to share and I am 100% confident in the mission and message I\u2019m here to share. It&#8217;s knowing the line between being yourself\u00a0and being annoying (Like posting 1000 pictures of your new baby a day, mix it up folks!)\u00a0Have you been there too?<\/p>\n<h3>2. Don\u2019t give a sh** about what others think.<\/h3>\n<p>I met with a client the other day and asked her why she was using a second fake personal profile to post in her boutique\u2019s Facebook group. \u00a0I asked why not be \u2018her\u2019 and share her message and business in an authentic way to her audience.<\/p>\n<p>She paused for a moment after saying \u201cI don\u2019t know\u201d &#8211; and then said \u201cWell I guess I want them to like me\u201d&#8230;..she\u2019s human. It\u2019s natural. But it\u2019s also a curse.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re happy in your own skin and are excited about your work in the world &#8212; share it. \u00a0The only thing we can change in this world is our own feelings and attitude. Other people\u2019s jealousy, snarky comments or maybe our own \u2018perceived\u2019 feelings of judgement by others (notice I said \u2018perceived\u2019 and not always actual) are road blocks that can stop us dead in our tracks.<\/p>\n<p>Cut that crap out and be Y O U. \u00a0Enough with letting other people&#8217;s thoughts and actions control your own.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Get real about who you are and what you do.<\/h3>\n<p>If your personal profile\u2019s summary doesn\u2019t say \u2018#BoutiqueBoss at My Awesome Boutique\u2019 &#8212; you\u2019re not being real with yourself or your friends. \u00a0Start by sharing your business, title and mission on all of your profiles, say it in the mirror and live with it.<\/p>\n<p>Is there a mission you\u2019re set to accomplish? You\u2019re here to inspire others for a specific reason? Raise awareness on a topic? \u00a0Use your boutique as a platform for something else? \u00a0What is it that motivates you?<\/p>\n<p>Say it out loud, say it to others, include it in your about pages.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Get some great photos taken of yourself.<\/h3>\n<p>Start\u00a0using the other side of the camera whether it\u2019s photos or video and introduce your real self to your customers. They want to know who they are shopping with.<\/p>\n<p>They want to connect with you, trust you and relate to you. They can\u2019t do that if they have no idea who you are! \u00a0I recently had a few fun photos taken of myself just for The Hub, and you know what? It was fun!<br \/>\n<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-886\" src=\"https:\/\/theboutiquehub.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/a-select-9120-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"a-select-9120\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>5. Repeat after me, video is your friend.<\/h3>\n<p>We ran a video challenge in our Facebook Group a few weeks ago for the simple purpose of meeting one another and getting you comfortable using video.<\/p>\n<p>Video is the most powerful tool in social media marketing right now because it allows brands to be their authentic selves. Start playing with it and using it to your advantage.<\/p>\n<h3>6. Stop painting others with a wide brush.<\/h3>\n<p>Sometimes boutiques fall in the trap of trying to be too generic or too broad in marketing in an attempt to reach a wider audience of shoppers.<\/p>\n<p>The truth is, the more you know your best customers, and the more real you can be with your brand and your style, the more your niche base will grow.<\/p>\n<p><em>If you target everyone, you reach no one.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So start investigating your data, ask questions and know your audience, then use your unique brand voice to reach them in a more direct way.<\/p>\n<h3>Authenticity is hella sexy, yes as the quote says.
